In 1991 Christian Union Mission Church in Carrefour, Haiti took a mission trip to the remote area of Chaveneau, Haiti. Participants in this mission trip included Pastor Jean Dit Aldenor Cornet and his wife Jeanne Modesta Zamor Cornet (who is from Chantal- a neighboring town) and various other members of the church in Carrefour. During their time in Chaveneau many locals to the area became Christians and it soon became obvious that there was a need and desire among these people to have their own church. After much prayer and waiting for direction from God, Christian Church United in Faith was started as a satellite location of Christian Union Mission Church in Carrefour (Pastor Cornet's church). It is currently home to between 80 and 100 people on a Sunday morning and meets in a cement block building that was completed in July 2005.  The church is pastored by Pastor Junior Civil who resides in Chantal. The former pastor is Pastor Jean Duval Arris who was the pastor from 1991 to 2012. Pastor Duval would love to move to Chaveneau but that needs to wait until support for this ministry grows to that point since he currently uses funds from his job in Port au Prince to pay the living expenses for his family. Please pray with us that this dream may become a reality in the near future.

Where is Chaveneau?
Chaveneau is located in the extreme southwest region of Haiti about a 4.5 hour drive (125 miles west) from the capital city of Port au Prince. It is a remote farming community about 30 minutes drive from Les Cayes and a few miles from Chantal- both in the region of Sud. Les Cayes is the nearest metropolitan area with a population of about 70,000 people. It is a costal city and a large exporter of coffee and sugar cane. There is a small airport and hospital in Les Cayes and would be the closest town for these things.

In order to get to the location of the church/school one must sometimes park their vehicle in Chantal and hike about 2 to 3 miles by foot. This involves crossing/wading through two rivers. Though the rivers are not wide, they are about thigh-high deep on an average adult and one is quite swift.  If the water is low enough an SUV can drive through the rivers making the trip to Chaveneau a bit easier (therefore getting supplies in to the church is much more efficient during the dry season). We also have been driving out luggage in for trips the more trips we take there.  It is a beautiful, mountainous area- filled with lush vegetation. There are many farms and farm animals and most people are self-sufficient though malnourished.
